Calligraphy:

Calligraphy is a Latin word, which we know as “Khoshnevisi” in Farsi. But there are some differences between calligraphy and Khoshnevisi in terms of format and style. –    Where he/she goes but doesn’t know how.

–    Knows how to start but doesn’t know how it will end.

–    Knows what tool is going to start with but doesn’t know what tool is going to finish with.

16- In improvised writing, the artist captures words and letters by his mind and feeling. His mind moves toward unknowns and his hand towards what he knows, writes with unimaginable tools and doesn’t feel it is enough. He doesn’t think about the end neither stops in the process. He frees from musts and only cares about what let him free.

Realistic and content-oriented artworks are among these kinds of pieces but obeying hands from extreme forces (sense and imagination), creates predetermined artworks without rules and discipline, which will be taking advantage from a bunch of laws and experience but doesn’t follow them. Abstract artworks fit within this category.

  3. Attention to what that instructor looks at and the way he moves drawing tool.
  4. Attention to number of times that calligraphy tool touches the paper, the speed and the pressure of quill in the ink by focusing on the shape and form of the letters.
  5. Attention to the style and the angle of the tools that instructor is holding and the way his hand approach the paper.
  6. Attention to movement of fingers, wrist and scapular of instructor and movement of his hand across the paper while drawing various words and letters.
  7. Asking simple questions even if they seem not very important, this will trigger the expression of useful and important points by instructor.
  8. Listening to after class key points that might bring up interesting points out of different subjects.
  9. Taking notes or recording instructor’s comments while talking about other student’s projects.
  10. Understanding the position of student vs instructor, this would smooth up the path of this long and hard journey.

20- Creative art is not breaking rules and traditions, instead is understanding the everlasting resources, it is moving forward by relying on our ancestors’ experience and their imagination ability in his own time.

Those who challenges ancestors’ artworks they only express their premature knowledge or providing an imitation of foreign art blindly.

(Haji Mohammadi – June 2016)

21- Typography, it has to be firm outside which is the result of “principles” and penetrating inside which is the result of “intimacy and dignity”.

(Haji Mohammadi – June 2016)

22- … in old time, the usage of any typography based on physical structure and its prefund meaning have used for specific purpose, for example; in Quran different sort typefaces have been used for headlines, body text and margins, at the end of Qurans also (date and signature) is written by “Toghi” or “Reghae”* more often *(these are two of several Arabic typeface styles).

Was this choice, only an accident or blind imitation? Or as mentioned before it’s been supported by functional reasons and aesthetic background?

Maybe the answer to this questions based on the formic structure of each typeface helps today generation to choose different typefaces to create a manuscript or a piece, inscription or decorative, improvisation or outdoor graphic, typography or calligraphy, etc.

(Haji Mohammadi – June 2016)

23- Skill is result of experience

       Experience is result of effort

       Effort is result of motivation

Motivation is result of having goal(s)

…… then move forward with a goal.
